Thun and Lake Thun (Thunersee)

Certainly one of the prettiest and scenic lakes in Switzerland, with it's beautiful bright blue water surrounded by the cutest towns and villages, stunning mountain peaks, beautiful chalets and hotels, cows grazing peacefully on the green pastures of mountains slopes and various water activities. Oh, and not to forget the gorgeous sunset.

Easy and peaceful 30-mins scenic walk along the lake from Faulensee to Spiez.

Towns and villages along Lake Thun

  • Thun - Pretty and small medieval lakeside town with a rushing river and the nice market square in the heart of the town. It does not take long to explore on foot and to enjoy some stunning views and sceneries.

Built in the 12th century, Medieval Thun Castle now a historical museum, dominates the town's skyline amidst the views of the alps. Nice panoramic view of the lake, city and the Alps up the stairs of the castle. Entry fee US$10.50 (10CHF).

The Obere Hauptgasse is a 250-meter long street with a wonderful mix of

shops, offices, cafes, and apartments – with tons of flower pots.

  • Merlingen - St. Beatus Caves (more details on another page)

  • Spiez - Quaint little village with a 1000 year old castle church, which is well situated for exploring the region. The local Niesen mountain (the 'Swiss Pyramid') is well worth visiting for the funicular trip and fantastic views.

There are trains all day ( about 63 trains) from Bern and it takes 30 mins by train.

and tickets for this journey start from €5.69 when you book in
