Spiez

Spiez, View from hill side

Spiez is nestled in the picturesque bay of Lake Thun deep blue water and dominated by the magnificent Spiez Castle. It is very well situated to explore the region, approximately halfway between the towns of Thun or Interlaken,

The natural scenery of green lush hills and vineyards, wooden houses perched on the mountain and the stunning views of the pyramid-shaped Niesen mountain, make it one of the most beautiful little town.

Niesen mountain is accessible by cable/funicular or can hike up. There is also a restaurant on top and is very family friendly to spend a few hours enjoying the views.

The view from Spiez Castle tower is very panoramic and awesome.

There are many other activities aside from hiking by the lake in the summer.

Travel

Train: It is around 35 KM from Bern and takes approx. 30 mins travel. Trains are frequent and ticket for single journey if book in advance costs €5.69 p/p.

Trains from and to many other destinations, like Montreux (Lake Geneva) also stops at Spiez.

As you step out of the station, you will have a beautiful view of the lake Thun and the castle. It is a very short downhill walk to reach the shore of the lake and the promenade along lake Thun.

Bus: It is just outside the train station.

Note:

We used our Berner Oberland regional pass to travel from Faulensee to Spiez.

Eat

We had lunch in the top restaurant of Migros supermarket, which has a very pretty scenic view of the castle, lake and mountain. The food was okay and not over priced.
