Schilthorn

Bond World & Swiss Skyline

Schilthorn

At 2,970m above sea level, Schilthorn will give you vast views of the Alps with the Jungfrau, Monch, Eiger trio out in the distance. On a clear day, you can see for miles and miles of continuous peaks.

The Schilthorn became famous as a location for the 1969 James Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. The revolving restaurant at the summit, which rotates around its own axis once every 45 minutes, owes its current name Piz Gloria to the film production. Visitors can follow in James Bond’s footsteps in the interactive Bond World exhibition or on the 007 Walk of Fame.

Schilthorn Piz Gloria

We visited on a clear, sunny and warm day, and once at the top we were greeted with breathtaking views of the 3 major peaks Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Just remember that you will be high in altitude and the temperature can be colder even in summer so make sure to bring a jacket. Just walk around and take a seat to admire to fantastic panorama.

You can enjoy brunch or just a drink (vodka martini, shaken not stirred) at the bar in the revolving restaurant, 007 style!

Be careful if you are afraid of heights, there are a couple of places where you can walk on clear plexiglass instead of the metal catwalks, to see the mountain spilling out below. On the Schilthorn Ridge, far from the summit hustle and bustle, three spacious loungers invite you to linger. With spellbinding mountain and lake views stretching to the horizon.

The Skyline Walk at the Birg middle station lets you stare into the abyss below. As if that’s still not enough excitement, we took the Thrill Walk. The Birg Thrill Walk takes you along a 200 metre pathway which clings to the cliff face – and even passes under the cableway! There are also a few heart racing obstacles along the way such as walking over a tightrope or crawling through a clear tube, which was fun!
