Accommodation

On the edge of a cliff with nice view at the rear of the house. Walking distance to downtown and the bridge. Very quiet neighbourhood, parking just outside the house. However, there was no WIFI and apartment is kind of basic.

All places of interests are within easy walking distance. Ronda is small and it took us a day and half to leisurely walk around and see what we wanted to see. It is a nice place to base yourself and drive around. Unfortunately, I don't have any details about public transit, costs for taxi, etc.

Places to visit

Alameda de Tajo - Tree-lined promenade with balconies and botanical garden. Stroll along the promenade for fantastic views and be photographed with the gorge in the background. In the early evening, local musicians offer sounds of joy and calmness with the sun setting in the backdrop - a not to be missed sunset. Continue walking until reaching the point where the Puente Nuevo is in sight. Wait until it gets darker to capture some amazing shots of the bridge. Words fail to describe the beauty.

Plaza de Toros - Oldest bullring in Spain - Nice architecture entirely built in stone. Have a coffee at hotel Catalonia which is opposite the bullring to enjoy the best view of Plaza de Toros from above. 6.50€ p/p

Bull Ring

Puente Nuevo - most emblematic bridge of Ronda. Follow the path down and there are several locations to catch the bridge at different angles and also the waterfall in its full glory. Very easy path.

Viewpoints and Paths

--> Mirador del Viento -> Mirador la Hoya Del Tajo --> then walk along the Ctra. de los Molinos --> C. del Prado ( behind the Castillo del Laurel)

--> cross the road for the Puerta de Almocabar ( walk along the wall)

--> come back down and go along C.Espiritu Santo until view of Iglesia del Espiritu Santo

--> continue with the path down (not the path up to the main road)

-->continue along the path for amazing views of the valley --> Murallas de la Cijara --> Murallas Del Carmen --> Puerta de la Cijara --> Aquas de Ronda --> Banos Arabes Yacimeinto

--> Walls of Ronda -- > Puente San Miguel -->Puente Viejo

--> Jardines Cuenca o De La Mina --> Jardines de Cuena - Garden is breathtakingly beautiful with flowers and divided into terraces on different levels on the edge of the Tajo de Ronda gorge and the Gaudalevin River. Sit there and enjoy the tranquility and the beauty of nature and you might even see a peacock.

View from Jardines

--> C.Escolleras --> turn left on C.Virgen de los Remedios to end the hike for a deserve lunch at one of the best tapas in Ronda at the El Lechuguita.

We took our time soaking in the majestic views and landmarks. We did this in half a day (5 hours) - out on the road at 7.30am to avoid crowd and before it got too hot. The hike is easy, no steep slope and for most part it is flat.

Eat

  1. Taperia La Flamenka - C. Virgen de los Remedios, 29400 Ronda. We stumbled upon this cute little taperia on our first evening while looking for a place to have dinner, away from the main tourists trap. Jose the owner and chef is a very nice young humble guy who will welcome you with a big smile. His tapas are simply delicious at very affordable prices. Less than 5 minutes walk from the Puente Nuevo. The waiting staff are so friendly and always checking on you. 31€ for 2 including drinks.

  2. Taperia El Lechuguita - Near the Puente Nuevo. Great place and nice vibe. Had to wait about 15 mins to get a table and it was perfect, we were sat right at the bar - awesome. It is crowded during lunch time with loads of tourists and locals. The tapas are fresh and really tasty, some tapas from a buffet style menu are 1€. Lots of choices and including beer, €20 for two.
