Priego de Cordoba

Famous for its Baroque Churches

Fuente del Rey

16 May 2022

Relax and pleasant drive from Granada to Priego de Cordoba. We left Granada around 7.30am to avoid traffic getting out of town - 1 hr 20 mins

Google Map

Parking - Aparcamientos Priego S.L. C. Lozano Sidro 1, 14800 Priego de Cordoba - 2€ (unlimited parking)

It is right in the middle of town - small open area. Be there early to get a spot. Walking distance to visit this lovely little village.

Oficina de Turismo de Priego ( tourist office) is 2 mins walk from the parking - very helpful.

Priego de Cordoba is stunning and beautiful. Just walk around and lose yourself in the tight winding white washed walled streets.

Places to visit

Fuente del Rey (King's Fountain) - Lovely, clean and quiet square. The fountain is amazing with water gushing out from a number of spouts into 3 pools with Neptune and Amphitrite riding a horse chariot that comes out of water in the centre. Quite delightful.

Fountain of Health - next to Fuente del Rey

Church of our Lady of Assumption -Wonderful baroque style little church - 3.00 p/p

Church of our lady of Aurora - It was temporarily closed while we were there.

Barrio de la Villa - Gorgeous and stunning white washed houses and narrow winding streets adorned with geraniums in full bloom on walls and patios. We found it prettier that Cordoba. The charming streets are so quiet and peaceful to wander and lose yourself.

Balcon de Adarve - The Balcon de Adarve is a balcony with a wonderful view of the Andalusian countryside. It is set on the edge of a cliff and forms a natural balcony that used to be the town's defense. There is a beautiful statue of a nude youth with an eagle, another small statue of a boy represents the actor and singer Joselito, who filmed the famous movie "Saeta del Ruiseñor (Song of the Nightingale)" in the town in 1957. There are also three drinking water fountains to refresh on a hot day!

Whatever you do, don't miss to wander and explore this cute little village. It will leave an everlasting memory, just like it did to us. We regret not spending a least a night there. Lots of wonderful photos, especially with the boy statue of Joselito with the Andalusian countryside in the background.

Just on the outskirt of the village (10 mins drive away), we made a quick detour to buy some olive oil from one of local growers - Coop. Olivarera "La Purisima" . We had a taste of the olive oil while having breakfast at the Bar Miguelin and liked it.
