Napoli

City of Legends and Birthplace of Pizza

Napoli, Stone Baked Pizza

Travel

Trenitalia train from Salerno station, located in the city's center Piazza Vittorio Veneto for the 40 mins journey to Napoli Centrale. We took the train off-peak after 9.30am - to avoid morning rush and also cheaper fare. € 5.10 p/p

Travel Card for Campania

At Napoli Centrale we purchased the 3-day Campania Artecard that allowed unlimited travel on public transportation in the Campania region of Italy, including Naples, Sorrento, and Pompeii. The card can also be used to access certain attractions, such as museums and archaeological sites, at a discounted price.

  • €32 – 3 days for adults

The 3-day Campania Arte Card gives free admission to the first two sites visited and then up to 50% discount on further sites for the three-day card. We used it for Pompeii and Herculaneum for free admissions.

Accommodation

Apartment not far from train station and city center. It is not listed anymore, so cannot provide any more details. We stayed 4 nights.

Eat

  • Pizzeria Pellone - Best pizza we have ever had and so so cheap. Freshly baked in minutes in stone oven. Also try the aubergine fried in batter they sell outside, so tasty.

  • Ieri, Oggi, Domani Trattoria - We stumbled on this restaurant while walking around for a place to eat on a Sunday and they were just preparing to open for the evening. We went in and the staff welcomed us. The menu is in Italian but the lady was very happy to translate for us. During our 4-day stay, we eventually dined there twice. The food was delicious, especially the seafood, fresh, tasty and affordable. The owner and the staff are very friendly. The Sophia Loren decor and old movies made it an authentic Italian atmosphere. Well worth it, at least once.
