** Notes

Tickets cannot be purchased on board. You can buy them in tobacco shops (Tabaccheria), bars, newsagents, as well as in the train stations of Sorrento and Salerno.

Due to the unique conditions on the Amalfi Coast (unique road, countless tourists), when traffic is crowded, and that is pretty much all the time April to October, except for the early mornings, buses might arrive with a delay. When the traffic is light, they will get there a bit earlier than their schedule. Keep this in mind.

You can get motion sickness easily due to the curvy roads and how buses are drove here (lots of unexpected stops), so if you know you are sensible on this, better to be prepared.

Sit on the right: if you're travelling in Sorrento-Salerno direction, grab a seat on the right for the best views. If going in Salerno-Sorrento direction, grab a seat on the left.

  • Path of the Gods

The Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei in Italian) is a hiking trail located on the Amalfi Coast region. The trail stretches for approximately 7.8 km (4.8 miles) and offers breathtaking views of the coastline, the Mediterranean Sea, and the surrounding mountains.

Amalfi, Path of Gods

The Path of the Gods is named for its spectacular views, which were said to have been appreciated by the gods themselves. The trail winds through lush forests, past terraced vineyards and olive groves, and along steep cliffs that offer panoramic views of the sea and the rugged coastline.

On the day, we were greeted with thick fog when we set off in the morning. Although we could not see much further ahead, the fog added an extra element of uncertainty and mystery to the environment.

Amalfi, Path of Gods

The trail begins in the town of Bomerano and ends in the town of Nocelle, passing through the villages of Praiano and Positano along the way. The hike usually takes around 3-4 hours to complete, depending on one's pace and level of fitness.

Amalfi, Path of Gods

There are several places to stop for a break or to take in the views along the way, including a small chapel dedicated to the Madonna delle Grazie.

As the day went on, the fog dissipates to reveal some awesome views of the Amalfi coast below.

Amalfi Coast, View from Path of Gods

The Path of the Gods is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers, but it is also a pilgrimage route for many locals who come to walk the trail in honor of the Madonna or other religious figures. The trail can be challenging in places, with steep inclines and narrow pathways, but it is well worth the effort for the stunning views and the sense of accomplishment at the end of the hike.

Trail Path

* Go to Piazza Capasso for map of walks.

Amalfi, View from Path of Gods

7 KM trail along the cliffs with 100% panoramic views all the way. It was an overcast day when we started and the beginning of the trail was covered in mist, however it was equally beautiful and as dramatic.

Amalfi, View from Path of Gods

1. The walk begins at the piazza to the left of the Bomerano San Matteo Church.

2. Set out from Praiano escalating through numerous steps ( about one hour of climbing) through amazing hillside scenery and one local church ( with an amazing balcony viewing the coast) until you pick up the main trail that leads to Nocelle.

3. Once reaching Nocelle don't make the mistake of walking down the stairs ( through their local church) towards the shore, instead keep straight on the path that crosses Nocelle (passing by a small restaurant) towards the next town Montepertuso. Soon enough the trail unites with a paved road as you decline towards Montepertuso.

4. After you cross most of the town just before reaching a small garage on your right there is a small stairway leading all the way down to Positano ( try not to miss it, if you do you will have to walk along the paved road all the way down, which is a longer and less scenic route )

5. The stair path down to Positano is surely one of the highlights of this daily path because of the amazing scenery on Positano and its bay.
